CQUIN at AIDS 2018: Differentiated Service Delivery 2018: Innovations, Best Practices, and Lessons Learned Amsterdam, Netherlands

Event Date: July 23, 2018 -

Summary and Presentations

The HIV Coverage, Quality, and Impact Network (CQUIN) held its satellite session at the 22nd International AIDS Conference in Amsterdam on July 23. Differentiated Service Delivery 2018: Innovations, Best Practices, and Lessons Learned was an interactive panel discussion that focused on the latest innovations identified by the network.

Ms. Wame Mosiime, director of global programs and advocacy for the International Treatment and Preparedness Coalition (ITPC) and Dr. Peter Preko, CQUIN project director, moderated the session, with presenters from the Zimbabwe Ministry of Health and Child Care (MoHCC), ICAP at Columbia University, the University of Washington, the African Society of Laboratory Medicine (ASLM), and University Research Co. (URC). Dr. Wafaa El-Sadr, ICAP’s global director, opened with framing remarks emphasizing the important role that coverage, quality, and efficiency – all cornerstones of the CQUIN network – play in reaching the 90-90-90 targets.

Key takeaway points for scaling up DSD:

  • Countries are scaling up DSD for stable patients, but coverage is still limited
  • Measurement of DSD coverage and quality remains challenging
  • Access to viral load services remains a barrier to DSD scale-up
  • Communities and recipients of care need access to treatment education and information about DSD
