South Africa

South Africa joined the CQUIN learning network in 2017 as a thought leader in differentiated service delivery (DSD) design and has since been an active member, participating in CQUIN meetings, webinars, country-to-country learning visits, communities of practice, and more. 

As of 2024, UNAIDS estimates that South Africa has 7,700,000 [7,000,000-8,300,000] adults and children living with HIV, and an HIV prevalence of 16.6% in adults aged 15-49. An estimated 95% of people know their HIV status, 77% of people who know their status are on treatment, and 77% of those on treatment are virally suppressed.

In 2025, South Africa participated in CQUIN-supported HIV service prioritization assessments to support the sustainability of HIV programs amid a changing global funding landscape.
