Dr. Musa Manganye Joins the South Africa Department of Health to Support DSD Implementation Nationwide

Jun 30, 2020

With support from the CQUIN network, Musa Rally Manganye, MPH, DrPH, has joined South Africa’s National Department of Health to support differentiated service delivery (DSD).  He will join a vibrant CQUIN community of practice of national DSD coordinators from 14 countries.

A South African national, Dr. Manganye has over 16 years’ work experience as a public health expert and as a social and behavioral scientist. He has held several technical leadership positions with the South African, and U.S governments, as well as the non-profit sector. One of his most notable career successes was spearheading and implementing the development of seven adherence guidelines for the NDOH’s pilot national adherence strategy for HIV, tuberculosis, and non-communicable diseases in four South African provinces in 2014.

Dr. Manganye has a B Cur in Nursing Science, an MPH from the University of Venda, and a DrPH from the Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University, all in South Africa. “I am looking forward to helping South Africa achieve its 90-90-90 goals,” said Dr. Manganye. “The NDOH just launched revised standard operating procedures for differentiated service delivery in March this year. My focus is to make sure the country can roll out its differentiated care models nationwide.”

South Africa, which joined CQUIN in 2017, already has a wide diversity of DSD models, including appointment spacing, fast-track, community-based adherence clubs, and ART groups to improve health services for people living with HIV.

“The CQUIN network is a great platform and learning opportunity for knowledge and policy sharing. As much as the country contexts are different, the learning network will help South Africa with country adaptations where we can lean on each other to scale up on different DSD models,” Dr. Manganye said.

“South Africa is a powerhouse when it comes to differentiated service delivery, and there is a lot to learn from the country,” said Peter Preko, MB.ChB, MPH, CQUIN project director. “I hope Dr. Manganye’s appointment will strengthen South Africa’s overall engagement in the CQUIN network. We are delighted to have him on board.”
