Male Involvement in HIV Prevention Trials: Examples from HPTN071

In this presentation, Helen Ayles, MSc, PhD, of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, shares experiences involving men in HIV prevention trials. Dr. Ayles describes the rationale for focusing on men to achieve the UNAIDS 90-90-90 targets. She provides an overview of the HPTB071 (PopART) study, including trial design and intervention package, as well as data pointing to a lack of male involvement. Based on case examples and data, Dr. Ayles provides strategies for reaching men, concluding that practioners must ensure that HIV prevention studies are responsive to what men want and change course, if necessary.
