In this presentation, Landon Myer, MD, PhD of the School of Public Health and Family Medicine at the University of Cape Town, delivers viral load monitoring strategies for pregnant and breastfeeding women. Dr. Myer reinforces the message that pregnant and postpartum women on ART are a critical population for viral load monitoring, and explains that strategies for viral load monitoring for this population must be slightly different to be successful. Ultimately, he concludes, viral load monitoring is feasible for pregnant and postpartum women, although implementation challenges exist.
